About SchoolChatter

SchoolChatter is a simple, quick and effective way for schools to keep the whole school community informed about what is going on at school in a structured and controlled way. SchoolChatter is easily and quickly set-up and then allows you to embed specifically targeted ‘feeds’ anywhere on your school website. SchoolChatter can consist of feeds for specific years, specific subjects or the whole school and a Chat, once created, can be featured on one or more feeds. Pupils in Year 1 doing wonderful art work? Tell the world and feature the details on the Year 1 page, the Art curriculum page and the whole school feed.

SchoolChatter Features

SchoolChatter is available as an App which the school community can download onto their own device and then be kept right up to date – with push notifications – about what is happening at school, whether that be reminders for specific events, general updates or emergency information. SchoolChatter followers can select to follow as many categories as your school has – specific subjects, year group(s) or the whole school – so they receive notifications and Chats about what they are interested in. The only interaction a user can have with SchoolChatter is to like a Chat – no comments or negative feedback to deal with as is the case with other social media channels.

Stories of success

Schools across the North West of England have already started enjoying the benefits of SchoolChatter and are part of the 'Ground Zero' team helping us to develop and extend the functionality of the software. Here's what they have to say:

SchoolChatter is very easy for staff to use and so the chats we post each week has increased significantly and our engagement with parents and carers has improved massively.

FAQs

SchoolChatter is a simple communication method that allows schools to quickly and efficiently communicate with the whole school community. SchoolChatter allows schools to set up chat feeds that can cover a number of topics, you can have feeds for the whole school, for individual classes, specific subjects or, most commonly, all of these. Parents, carers or anyone interested in the school can then follow one or more feeds to see content that is relevant and of interest to them.

On the posting a chat side, schools can set up specific chats that specific members of staff are responsible for. So, for example, a school can set up a Year 1 chat that the Year 1 teaching team post to. The school senior leaders (or whoever is responsible for whole school chats) can then re-post these chats to the whole school Chatter feed very simply and very quickly.

On the Chat ‘consumer’ side, someone interested in what is happening at the school can choose to follow one or more Chatter feeds, So, for example, if a parent has a child in Year 1 and a child in Year 3, they can follow the Year 1 and Year 3 Chatter feed to keep up to date with what their children are doing in school.

SchoolChatter has been developed in response to dissatisfaction from schools with other social media channels and how they did not meet the specific requirements of schools of easy to access, focused, brief and secure communications between the school and anyone interested in what is going on at the school, particularly parents and carers of school pupils.

SchoolChatter does not allow comments from users. A user can only read and ‘like’ a Chat.

Once you have purchased SchoolChatter you can set up as many Chat feeds as you wish under your SchoolChatter account however, it is worth bearing in mind that your target audience would probably appreciate a manageable number of feeds that they can follow and also, the more SchoolChatter feeds yo have, the more updating you will have to do.

SchoolChatter has been specifically developed for schools – primary and secondary – all the features and functionality have been specifically developed for schools and the communities they serve, support and work with. Everything about SchoolChatter has been developed to provide the maximum benefit to schools and their wider community (largely parents and carers) so that the messages and information schools want to share are easy to publish and to consume.

To get SchoolChatter on to your school website click on the ‘Buy now’ button and follow the very simple steps to set up your account, your school and the chat feeds that you would like to create. Provide access to your team – assign them to specific feeds – and then embed the relevant link in to the page or pages of your school website.

Direct your audience to the app stores (IOS (Apple) and Android (everything else)) and get them to search for ‘SchoolChatter’. This should return SchoolChatter as the top result and the user then downloads and installs the app on their device and then enters the feed(s) they wish to follow – let them know the URL for the whole school feed and any sub-feeds, for example, classes and curriculum topics. If the user activates notifications in the SchoolChatter app, they will be told when a new Chat has been made on the feed(s) they follow.

As things stand, schools can add up to 4 images to any one Chat on SchoolChatter. We are reviewing the number of images and may, if the needs of our schools dictate, increase this number of images per chat. Experience to date suggests that 4 images per Chat is about right.

You can also add hyperlinks to Chats if you want to direct your School community to key information or advice – for example, if a specific class is going on a school trip, then you can create a hyperlink to the website for the destination of the trip.
